Channels now have an easier time posting short videos on YouTube.

YouTube Is Making It Easier for Channels to Post Shorts

By enabling creators to reuse their existing videos, YouTube is making it simpler for them to post Shorts.

You can now cut up to 60 seconds from your own long-form YouTube videos and turn them into Shorts using all the same editing tools that you know and love (text, timeline editor, filters, etc.), the company says in its announcement, "making it easier to create even more new content."The function extends beyond simply turning a 60-second segment of a lengthier film into a Short.

As long as the final film is still under 60 seconds long, YouTube says artists who choose a clip that is under a minute long will be allowed to "record more videos with the Shorts camera as well as post other videos" from their galleries.

YouTube seems to realise that probably isn't a sufficient incentive on its own, so the company is also making it so that any Shorts generated from someone's existing content will link back to the longer video. Reducing the amount of work necessary to create Shorts could encourage more YouTubers to embrace the format.

According to YouTube, "Shorts made from VODs will link back to the original long-form videos so that viewers of your Short can also see the original video." Importantly, since this tool is not available for other authors to utilise on your material, only you, the original creator, will be able to import your long-form films into Shorts.
