HOW FACEBOOK CHANGING ITS ALGORITHM TO COMPETE TIKTOK
In 2018,
when Zuckerberg unveiled a strategy aimed at promoting "meaningful social interactions" (MSI) between friends in the News Feed, Facebook made its most significant change to the way it suggests content. Zuckerberg anticipated when it first came out that people would spend less time on the social network but feel better after using it.
He claimed at the time that
"studies demonstrates that using social media to interact with people we care about can be helpful for our well-being."
On the other side, passively reading articles or watching videos might not be as beneficial, even if they are interesting or educational. As Facebook's user base ages and Meta's revenue is slowing, Zuckerberg seems to be discarding the four years of design decisions made for the feed.
He claimed on Wednesday that people were increasingly using private communications rather than sharing content in feeds.
One social trend we're noticing is that most individuals locate fascinating stuff in their feeds and then message that content to friends and participate there rather than just commenting on it.
